FORT WORTH -- A 35-year-old woman drowned Wednesday night while trying to rescue her son from the Trinity River, officials said.
The woman, identified as Dania Martinez, was pronounced dead at 8:03 p.m. at a Fort Worth hospital, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.
Emergency rescue personnel were dispatched about 7:20 p.m. to a call about a drowning in the 3300 block of Trinity Park Drive, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department. They found people performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a woman.
Witnesses said the woman, who did not know how to swim, had tried to rescue her 8-year-old son, who had fallen into the river. He was pulled out by a bystander. The woman's husband and another bystander pulled her from the river and began CPR, fire officials said. -- Marty Sabota
