Parks at Arlington mall undergoing renovation
The Parks at Arlington mall has launched a multimillion-dollar renovation that will include new paint, lighting and flooring and a food court face-lift, the mall said.
The renovation is similar to one that is ongoing at Hulen Mall in Fort Worth. Both malls are owned by General Growth Properties, which emerged last fall from a 19-month bankruptcy reorganization.
In July, workers at The Parks mall started repainting the entire property and installing energy-efficient interior and exterior lighting. Both projects are scheduled to be completed before the holiday rush, said Debi Martinez, marketing director for both shopping centers.
The Macy's court seating area will be revamped over two months, beginning in September, to include new furniture. Early next year, the food court will be overhauled with new furniture, and the entire mall will get new porcelain tile flooring.
"It's time," Martinez said. "The mall looks pretty good, but it's a little dated."
The lighting makeover will include new Center Court fixtures and sconces on common area columns. The mall will remove the park-style lamp posts on the upper level and the oversized light poles in Center Court, "creating an open, more contemporary look and feel," the mall said.
The 1.5 million-square-foot mall is also upgrading its energy management system to help employees better monitor and control energy use.
Martinez characterized the value of the renovation as being in the "multimillions."
Lorie Lisius, the Parks general manager, said most of the work will occur at night and after mall hours.
"Our crews work at night, starting at 10 p.m. and finishing at 6 a.m.," she said.
The Hulen Mall renovation, apart from a 22,000-square-foot outdoor restaurant plaza being built facing Hulen Street, is expected to be done by late September or early October, Martinez said.
BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, under construction in the restaurant plaza, is expected to open in late October or early November, Martinez said.
Construction recently started on an Abuelo's Mexican restaurant. "It may be early 2012" before that restaurant opens, Martinez said.
A third pad site in the restaurant plaza might be divided for smaller restaurants, Martinez said.
