I'm glad I had the opportunity to nurse my son. This weekend, nursing moms can celebrate World Breastfeeding Awareness Week by attending one of the local "latch-on" events to help break the record for the most women breastfeeding simultaneously. If your past this stage of the parenting game, there are several family friendly events waiting for you in my list of free things-to-do. Enjoy:

1. Big Latch On: As part of World Breastfeeding Awareness Week, moms in the United States are meeting up at local "latch-on" events to break the record for the most women breastfeeding simultaneously. The synchronized nursing event begins at 10:30 a.m. (but get there at 10 a.m. for the roll call). Tell your breastfeeding buddies to join you to support the cause.

2. Star Party: View the asteroid Vesta with representatives from the museum’s Noble Planetarium and the Fort Worth Astronomical Society. The experts will be on-hand to answer questions and assist in seeing this unique asteroid, along with the moon, Saturn and other special objects through large telescopes in the night sky.
Good to know: Prime asteroid viewing will be from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., but Vesta will be visible throughout the night.

3. Bookmarks' Japanese Children's Activities: Kids can enjoy interactive music and play, storytelling, parachute play and learn how to do basic origami.
Recommended ages: 11 and younger

4. Nasher Sculpture Center: The popular Target First Saturdays event features art projects, tours, scavenger hunt, yoga, sculpture demo, storytime and take-home art activities.
Good to know: Family tours are at 10:15 a.m, 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.; NasherKids Meal available for puchase at Nasher Cafe from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

NOT FREE BUT GOOD: 5. Dollar Days at the Dallas Arboretum: Every day in August, you and your family can enjoy admission to the garden for just $1 for adults and children! The arboretum features 66-acres of spectacular display gardens that showcase incredible seasonal flowers, ornamental shrubs, trees and plant collections in a serene setting on White Rock Lake.
Good to know: Children 2 and younger are free

BONUS: PLAN AHEAD! 50 Fest: In honor of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art’s 5oth Anniversary, your family is invited to a fun-filled celebration where guests will be treated to food, drinks and the toe-tapping music of two Austin-based bands -- The Marshall Ford Swing Band and Del Castillo. There will also be hula hoops and bubbles for more outdoor fun, along with photo booths where guests can pose for a souvenir of the celebration. And of course, there will be cake. Visitors will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite Amon Carter–themed confection designed by local pastry chefs.
Good to know: The museum will have shaded areas, misters, bottled water and ice cream to keep you cool outside. Indoors you can view the gallery.

DOUBLE BONUS -- ONGOING SUMMER EVENTS!
Friday Fireworks: Every Friday night throughout the summer, you can feast your eyes on a 12-minute fireworks display that can be seen from any Lake Grapevine Park.
Good to know: Best viewing locations are your favorite lake parks or on top of the parking garage at the Gaylord Texan Resort for the Garage Rock Out Party.

When: 9:30 p.m. Fridays through Labor Day.

2-for-1 Exhibit Tuesdays: The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is offering a great deal during the summer months. Every Tuesday through August 30 is 2-for-1 admission. Bring the whole family to experience the new aviation exhibit, "Ascent…When Dreams Defy Gravity, and Champions."
Good to know: The second admission must be of equal or lesser value. Cannot be combined with any other offer. Does not apply to Omni Theater or Noble Planetarium tickets.
