With triple-digits heating up the Dallas/Fort Worth scene, it's probably best to keep the kids indoors this weekend. Here are my pics for fun -- and free -- family outings this weekend:

1. Art Spark: Get artistic with the family! Activities will include art-making activities, children’s films and live performances by Texas Winds. Admission to "Picasso and Braque: The Cubist Experiment, 1910–1912" is free during the festival.
Good to know: Advance reservations are not required. Admission to the permanent collection is always free.

2. New Parents Tour: Pack up the baby stroller and join the tour designed to introduce new parents (with babies in tow) to a variety of artworks at the Amon Carter Museum. Refreshments will be provided after the program. Tour begins at the Information Desk.
Good to know: Reservations are not required, but parents can call 817-989-5030 to receive helpful instructions

3. Fridays at the Farm: Enjoy a playdate at the farm! Chat with the chickens, dig in the dirt, ride a tractor and play with heritage toys.
Good to know: Tractor rides $1 per person.

4. Splish Splash StoryTime: Here's a storytime with a twist. Take your water baby out to Denton for fun time with other tots at the Children's Play Pool at the Water Works Park.
Good to know: Admission is free during storytime, but participants must leave by 10:45 a.m. or pay the Water Works admission. Admission: 48 inches or taller, $11(non-residents add $2); Under 48 inches, $7 (non-residents add $2); 2 and younger, free; and non-swimming guests, $5.

5. Basically Beethoven Festival: Introduce your children to the wonders of classical music. The concert series continues with different themes each Sunday through July 31.
Good to know: Parking is free and no reservations are required.

When:  2 p.m., Sunday, July 31. Rising Star Recital begins at 2:30 p.m. Featured concert begins at 3 p.m.

BONUS -- ONGOING SUMMER EVENTS!
Friday Fireworks: Every Friday night throughout the summer, you can feast your eyes on a 12-minute fireworks display that can be seen from any Lake Grapevine Park.
Good to know: Best viewing locations are your favorite lake parks or on top of the parking garage at the Gaylord Texan Resort for the Garage Rock Out Party.

When: 9:30 p.m. Fridays through Labor Day.

2-for-1 Exhibit Tuesdays: The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is offering a great deal during the summer months. Every Tuesday through August 30 is 2-for-1 admission. Bring the whole family to experience the new aviation exhibit, "Ascent…When Dreams Defy Gravity, and Champions."
Good to know: The second admission must be of equal or lesser value. Cannot be combined with any other offer. Does not apply to Omni Theater or Noble Planetarium tickets.

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays through August 30.
