Cheers: To John Peter Smith Hospital and Drs. James Anderson, Shakeel and Kumar and the nursing staff on the fourth floor coronary care unit. They saved my life with heart-valve repair surgery. Their care, compassion and understanding help were beyond compare. JPS, you are a great asset to Fort Worth.

-- Donald Leroy Nelson, Burleson

Cheers: To Mike Welton and Druzsilla Walker of the John Peter Smith Hospital respiratory department for helping my granddaughter who didn't breathe well. You both are dedicated people who care for others.

-- Viola Clark, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the Bluff Dale dad and family who drove me home when I ran out of gas. Cheers to Zack, who pumped gas into the pickup, followed us to my car and poured gas in. Cheers to his lovely girlfriend, who helped. She said, "God bless you" when they left.

-- Jane Graves, Glen Rose

Jeers: To the person who stole the large red stop sign from my back yard. It was a gift from the chief of police some 42 years ago. It will bring you bad luck, so please return it. God saw you.

-- Helen Krebs, Arlington

Cheers: To Carolyn Malone, manager of Scooter's Superstore, for dropping me a note to let me know she had some documents I had inadvertently left at the store. Her concern and quality customer service were appreciated.

-- Dwight Hopson, Roanoke

Cheers: To the Burleson Elks for their great baseball season. Coach Chris McKinley and his team are a class act. Cheers to KCLE/1460 AM for airing the games. I look forward to next season.

-- Mary Hagar, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Meacham Airport's Ed Boardman flight school and Mr. Grady. There, on Juneteenth of 1957, I got my commercial pilot's license and went on to become a contract pilot for Japan Airlines in 1963 and '64.

-- R.H. Rastall, Crowley

Jeers: To whoever found my Lynx pitching wedge at the Fort Worth Golf Club in northwest Fort Worth and didn't turn it in to the club house. It is part of a matched set and can't be replaced. If you care to return it, the course has my telephone number.

-- George Crittenden, Fort Worth

Jeers: To the thief who stole my three treasured potted plants from my front yard last month. You should be ashamed of yourself. God was watching.

-- Linda Boski, Arlington

Cheers: To Robert of AAA Auger Plumber for the efficiency with which he handled our plumbing problem.

-- Carolyn Western, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Sammy, who found my wallet with identification, credit cards and more than $500 in the parking lot of Home Depot in north Arlington. He returned it to my home and refused an award. His only interest was in finding the rightful owner.

-- Joe N. Louis, Arlington

Cheers: To the unnamed lady who gave me an umbrella to shade me from the sun. Thank you. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

-- Charles Measures, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Lascon Landscaping for a total redo of my yard, making it one of the prettiest on the block. This exceptional company charged reasonable rates. Owner John, Robert and Tom also build strong fences.

-- Billie J. Moore, Fort Worth

Jeers: To KRLD/105.3 FM for not broadcasting the NASCAR Sprint Cup races at Pocono and Michigan. I listen to racing on the radio because I don't have satellite or cable TV, and Fox Sports ended its coverage with the Kansas race.

-- David R. Gossett Jr., Everman

Cheers: To the lady at the IHOP in Mansfield who paid for our breakfasts on Father's Day. What a wonderful gesture from a very thoughtful stranger.

-- Ross Stuard, Mansfield

Cheers: To Guy Lissak, who must see yardwork as some kind of remedial therapy because after he does his yard, he often does ours. Recently, a huge branch fell onto our roof and was doing damage. Guy saved the day by cutting it down. We appreciate him!

-- Sharon Murphy-Whittington,

Arlington

Cheers: To Donny and Jon of Steve Hatcher Plumbing for coming to our rescue on Father's Day when our water heater burst. Their quick response prevented a lot of damage.

-- Paul and Carolyn Rogers,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To the three beautiful ladies who came to my aid when I fell June 16 coming out of the Walmart on McCart Avenue. I didn't get your names, but I thank each of you for your caring.

-- Margaret Marlow, Fort Worth

Jeers: To Bedford residents who don't support local restaurants. Try Los Jimadores. It's a great place with wonderful food and really good service. The best part is that it's close by. Let's support it and keep the business in Bedford.

-- Patti Marie Sanders, Bedford

Cheers: To Hurst and its dedicated employees for hosting Hurst Golden Couples event for couples married 50 years and more. It's an evening with live music, punch, coffee, snacks and cake. Local sponsors provide balloon decorations, flowers, cakes and a free photograph of each couple.

-- Jake and Jan Price, Hurst

Jeers: To companies that don't honor home warranties. After several weeks of calls about an air conditioning problem, no repairs were done and now no coverage. Our part was more than $1,000. Their excuse? Modification. That's a sorry way to keep from paying their part.

-- Wanda Bohannan, Hurst

Cheers: To A & T Moore Health Care for providing United Way-Arlington's Isolated Older Adults Roundtable with a delicious breakfast. Also, cheers to Pat Gleason-Wynn, Jerry Mosman and Ann-Maree Harrison for presenting an incredible amount of information to help Arlington effectively deal with this issue.

-- Jeff Dalton, chairman, Isolated Older Adults Roundtable,

Arlington

Cheers: To the Saginaw Texans 10-and-under baseball team for taking first place in its division at the Slumpbuster Tournament in Omaha, Neb. You faced tough competition and came out on top! Your coaches and your parents are very proud of you.

-- Pamela Ichimura, Fort Worth

Jeers: To whoever suggested awarding a scholarship instead of a car for good attendance in the Arlington school district. Who would get up for a scholarship? No one. Who would get up for a chance to win a car? Everyone. Cheers to Moritz for donating a car.

-- Gail Shannon, Arlington

Jeers: To the Supreme Court for overturning the California law banning the sale of brutally violent video games to those under 18. Saying there have always been scary fairy tales and cartoons for children doesn't justify the graphic interactive action of the videos. (Fairy tales usually had a moral.) Our society suffers!

-- Carolyn Allen, Benbrook

Cheers: To whoever is responsible for posting the flags down the center of Texas 10 through Richland Hills on holidays. It is wonderful to see the Stars and Stripes on my way to and from work each day. Brings a tear to my eye. God bless America and thank you!

-- Deborah Geltmeier,

Haltom City

Cheers: To Brian Kahlmorgan, manager of Discount Tire in Bedford, for the exceptional service, concern and respect he gives his customers.

-- Barbara St. Germain, Bedford

Jeers: To the astonishing number of drivers who don't know that one should stay in the right lane unless one is actually passing someone. Are people tailgating you? Do you see people weaving in the traffic around you? You might be the bad driver. What lane are you camped in?

-- Charles Norman, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the staff at Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth for their quick response when I needed the help. Dr. Khammar, the Cath Lab and emergency room staffs and nurses on the third and fourth floors were all professional. Even the food was good. Cheers also to the ambulance and helicopter crews.

-- Danny Hughes, Grandview

Cheers: To Becca and the wonderful staff at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in Fort Worth for helping me through my bout with "nausea" (from chemotherapy). They made me feel so comfortable. I was able to get out of the nursing home and have an excellent time and some amazing food with my family!

-- Martin Martin, Fort Worth

Jeers: To the Star-Telegram for not reporting more extensively on the "for sale" signs pasted to Gov. Rick Perry's forehead and back. I mean, really -- "secret" meetings all over the country, including one with the anti-democracy, anti-union, anti-environment Koch empire?

-- Lynn Smith, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Elks Diner in Burleson for good food, good people and great prices! And Jackie is so quick to bring us coffee with a smile every time! Love it!

-- Linda McMurtray, Joshua

Jeers: To the man who left his dog in his SUV on June 17 while picking up pizza on Blue Mound Road. The temperature was 102 degrees. Too bad his only reaction to my warning was to mock me.

-- Ellen T. Alger, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the delightful gentleman who treated our table at the Gardens Restaurant as we recently celebrated the birthday of a good friend, June. Each person said, "This has never happened to me!" Thank you for helping us make her day special.

-- Audrey Guinn, Arlington

Cheers: To the Humane Society of North Texas for helping Haltom City Animal Services give a young dog a second chance in life. Sauri, a shar-pei/shepherd mix, underwent surgery for bilateral entropion.

-- Helen Garrison, Haltom City

Jeers: To the communications company that sold me a service and then failed to install it correctly, leaving me on hold for over nine total hours to get technical support, showing up late for the five-hour window of time you scheduled and never offering one dime in compensation or discounts.

-- Allison McKnight, Fort Worth

Jeers: To the Dr Pepper Snapple Group for filing a lawsuit against the Dublin Dr Pepper bottler. The Dublin bottler is a special piece of Texas culture. Leave them alone, corporate monsters in Plano!

-- Stormy Mullinax, Benbrook

Jeers: To the umpiring team working the Rangers vs. Mets series at the Ballpark June 24-26. It was the worst I have ever seen. You umpires need to go back to umpiring school or get another profession!

-- Carolyn Gunnels, Aledo

Cheers: To the wonderful volunteers who work so hard to put together the Relay for Life cancer events in Arlington and Fort Worth. They do so much to raise money for cancer projects and they make survivors feel so special. Thanks for your hard work.

-- Jan Morgan, Arlington

Cheers: To the courage of Shirley Casstevens, who was eased into her new chapter of life by the extraordinary Texas Hospice team of Sherry Lanigan, Sarita Pettit, Dr. Carla Davenport and Texas Hospice founder Dr. Wm. Bryan Byrd.

-- Pat Jackson, Phoenix, Ariz.

Cheers: To Jerry Pringle for removing a very large limb that had fallen from our tree into a neighbor's yard. He had come by to check on his parents when he saw it. What a thoughtful and caring young man and what a tribute to his parents.

-- Sara and Harris Cavender,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To the Bedford Police Department for letting the Bedford Amateur Radio Club (BARC) use the Law Enforcement Center for our annual ham radio "Field Day" event. We appreciate all of their hospitality.

-- Jamie W. Janke, Bedford

Jeers: To the lack of maintenance on the lane stripes on Trinity Boulevard. Some are black from crack-sealing material and can't be seen at night. You cannot tell what lane you are driving in. If the road is wet, it's worse.

-- Mark Mackert, Arlington

Jeers: To the Texas Legislature for not passing the sanctuary cities and E-verify bills. It is obvious some representatives support illegal immigrants over U.S. citizens.

-- Donald Kneram,

North Richland Hills

Cheers: To Texas Image 14 Mizuno Volleyball Team for placing first at the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship, American Division. Special shout-out to Amy Hughes of Arlington! Great job, ladies!

-- Marinda Bramlett, Burleson

Cheers: To the nurses and staff of the Baylor Orthopedic and Spine Hospital at Arlington. Heaven forbid you ever have to have a joint replaced, but if you do, this is the place to be. All patient rooms are spacious and private; nursing and other staff is great; and service is excellent.

-- Glen Terrell, Arlington

Cheers: To David Jamison and Promises Ministry at First Baptist Church Burleson for the kindness and help that was given to my daughter, Sunni Ellis. What a wonderful Christian ministry this is. We would have been lost without your help. We cannot begin to thank you enough.

-- Phyllis Dyer, Joshua

Cheers: To Patrick Smith, employee extraordinaire at the VA clinic in Fort Worth. Smith went above and beyond the call of duty to register my son, who served three tours in Afghanistan. We appreciate his time, attention, helpfulness and pleasant personality.

-- Chan Chilstrom, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital emergency room staff, doctors and everyone connected to taking care of me during my June 28 visit after testing positive for renal failure. From entry to exit, the hospital practices their DNA of perfection.

-- Delbert Cantrell, Fort Worth

Cheers: To a young man named Curry with the Fort Worth Water Department. After seeing our struggle to get two TVs down some steps, he volunteered to carry both to the car and refused any payment. He was charming and polite, a credit to the department.

-- Margaret Thibert,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To Allen Samuels Hyundai. I had the windows tinted in my 2010 Hyundai. Two weeks later, the back windshield shattered while the car was sitting in the garage. With no discussion, Samuels replaced the window and the tinting at no charge. What great people.

-- James Sims, River Oaks
