ARLINGTON - Is Fido or Fluffy photogenic? If so, he or she can be a star in the city's 2012 Pets of the Year calendar.
The city of Arlington is hosting its first Facebook contest this month to select the pets featured in the calendar, which is an annual fundraiser for Animal Services. Arlington residents have until July 24 to submit photos of their cat, dog, guinea pig, parrots or any other kind of pet onto the city's Facebook page. Judges will then narrow down the entries to 12, and the pet with the most "likes" by the Facebook community will be featured on the cover."Not only is it a good cause to support our animal services, it's a fun project," said Renee MacQuaid, a communication coordinator for the city. "Who doesn't like to see cute pictures of pets?"A tax-deductible donation of any amount to the animal shelter is required to enter a photo in the contest, and participants must follow guidelines to avoid disqualification. For example, pets can not be wearing clothing in the pictures."We want to get the essence of the pet's personality," MacQuaid said. The winning pets will receive a professional photo shoot at Studio Works, a complimentary 5-by-7-inch photo and a free 2012 calendar. Calendars will be available for sale starting Oct. 1.To find the city's Facebook page, search City of Arlington, TX.Susan Schrock, 817-390-7639Have more to add? News tip? Tell us
