A Dallas law firm says it sued SuperMedia Inc., a publisher of Yellow Pages directories, claiming that the company, based at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, improperly calculated some employees' overtime pay.
Baron & Budd said it filed the suit Friday in Dallas. It seeks class-action status in the case, which the firm said includes hundreds of advertising sales personnel.Andrew Shane, a spokesman for SuperMedia, formerly known as Idearc, said Wednesday that the company had not seen the suit and couldn't comment on its claims."Our intent is always to fully comply with the laws that apply to our business. Beyond that, we don't comment on pending litigation," Shane said in an e-mail.According to the lawsuit, SuperMedia did not include the employees' commissions in their base compensation when paying overtime. The suit says that violates the federal Fair Labor Standards Act."Given the number of employees in addition to the time period involved, SuperMedia potentially denied its employees millions of dollars in overtime compensation," the law firm said in a separate news release.Verizon Communications spun off Idearc in 2006. Saddled with heavy debt, Idearc filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition in March 2009 and emerged as SuperMedia. It describes itself as one of the country's biggest Yellow Pages publishers by revenue and also sells online advertising and direct-mail services.Jim Fuquay, 817-390-7552Have more to add? News tip?
