An Alvarado man remained in an Arlington jail Tuesday accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend's mother when the woman stepped outside her apartment to talk to him Sunday afternoon.
No other injuries were reported.Luis A. Perez, 23, was arrested Sunday night after holding Arlington police at bay for a few hours at an Arlington apartment where authorities had tracked him.Perez was in jail in lieu of $150,000 bail. He's expected to be charged with murder in the next few days, according to Arlington jail records.The victim was Maria Ramirez, 57, who died at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth a few hours after she was shot Sunday afternoon, authorities said.Arlington police responded to the shooting call about 3 p.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of South Oak Street in Arlington.Officers learned that Perez had arrived at the apartment complex to see his ex-girlfriend who had had children with him.The ex-girlfriend, whom authorities did not identify, had a protective order from Johnson County against Perez.Ramirez was shot once in the abdomen when she stepped outside her apartment to talk to Perez, Arlington police said.Perez fled, but a witness later called 911 and told authorities that the Alvarado man was at an apartment in the 1400 block of Wiscasset Drive in Arlington.Arlington officers knocked on the apartment door, but no one answered, even though authorities noticed movement in the residence.
