Review: 'Hobbit' gets a kid-friendly makeover
What it is: In this adaptation of the beloved book, Bilbo Baggins and his motley crew of comrades set out to recapture the dwarves' treasure and slay the ferocious dragon. The cast does a wonderful job presenting a simplified version of a novel with a complicated plot.
What kids will like: My daughter sat with rapt attention throughout the entire performance and was delighted by the cast of elves, dwarves and trolls. Even eerie creatures such as Gollum and the dragon are given a kid-friendly makeover and portrayed as life-sized puppets.
What parents will like: The production is the handiwork of an all-youth cast and backstage crew, which I found quite impressive. The actors knew their lines well and genuinely seemed to be having a jolly good time.
Theatre Arlington is a gem of a venue, tucked into the heart of downtown. It's easy to get to, and the seats are quite comfy.
