Where to go for fireworks and festivities

There are many July Fourth celebrations in the Metroplex this weekend. Here are some of the major ones. Note: not all feature fireworks.



TARRANT COUNTY

Arlington

4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza

Arlington Highlands Mall

Festivities, including face-painting, music from A Hard Night's Day, and free snow cones for the first 2,000 people, precede the fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

Light Up Arlington

Live music from the Spazmatics and others, food, and kids' activities. Fireworks begin at 9:45 p.m.

Bedford

Big Top 4thFest Independence Day Celebration

Noon-10 p.m. Monday; free, though admission to the adjacent Splash Aquatic Center is $6.50 adults, $5.50 children, free for 2 and younger. The InFlataFun area requires individual tickets or a $15 wristband. This all-day event features children's activities, food, the Jolie Holliday Band and fireworks. No on-site parking; $4 shuttle service from Pennington Field, 1501 Central Drive. Lawn chairs, blankets, coolers, nonalcoholic beverages permitted

Family fun including the Fort Worth Herd Cowcamp, face-painting, gunfight shows and live music.

Grapevine

Fireworks Extravaganza

The fireworks can be best seen from the parking lots of the above locations. Vehicles not allowed to park on the street. No outdoor cooking equipment, pets or personal fireworks. Patriotic music is simulcast on KDKR/91.3 FM.

Consistently considered one of the country's best fireworks displays, this is a big regional draw. There will be a family fun zone, live entertainment and the Cavanaugh Flight Museum Warbird Flyover.
