AUSTIN — Kennedale's Hayden Elrod gave up only three hits in seven complete innings of work on the mound to lead the Wildcats to the UIL Class 3A state baseball title Thursday with a 5-1 win over Waco Robinson at UFCU Disch-Falk Field .
The senior retired 13 of the last 14 batters he faced, getting 13 groundouts, two double plays, two strikeouts and on walk on the day.
The Wildcats (33-5-1) struck first in the top of the first inning when Cameron Massengill doubled to score shortstop Jimmy Norris.
Norris scored again two innings later when Zach Holley drove him in with a single to left field. Holley finished with four hits in six at-bats at state.
Junior Nic Williams drove into two Kennedale runs with a sacrifice in the fourth and an RBI double in the sixth.
The Rockets' lone run came in the bottom of the second inning when Brandon Johnson drove in catcher Joseph Olson with an RBI single.
Elrod was the game's MVP.
