Cheers: To the hundreds of volunteers and volunteer firefighters who fought the wildfires in the Possum Kingdom Lake area. These folks have worked so hard to protect our homes, land and area businesses. Cheers also to the Lake Country Sun newspaper's Facebook page for providing comprehensive information concerning the fires.

-- D'Ann and David Woodle,

Lakeside

Jeers: To the substitute delivery driver who put heavy boxes in my flower bed and mashed my flowers. You don't have to be smarter than a fifth-grader to know that you don't put boxes on top of flowers. Cheers to my regular driver, who knows where to put boxes.

-- Brenda Lowrance, Fort Worth

Cheers: To veterinarian Terrell Rourk at Camp Bowie Animal Clinic for caring for our little dog, Sassy, for almost 16 years. He is kind, gentle and patient, and there is no better vet. We will always love and appreciate him. He was Sassy's friend.

-- Mike and Kathy Williams,

Fort Worth

Jeers: To whoever is responsible for Josh Lewin leaving the broadcast booth of the Texas Rangers. Josh made watching the games fun and exciting. John Rhadigan just doesn't have it.

-- Virginia Richardson, Benbrook

Jeers: To KLIF/570 AM for dropping Michael Savage. His was the best, most honest and most intelligent talk show on radio. We now have to listen on the Web. What is wrong with Dallas? How stupid of KLIF.

-- Ruth Ford, Hurst

Cheers: To KTFW/92.1 FM and the sponsors who host Joe Bielinski's Classic Country Review on Sunday nights. I have been listening to Joe since 1991 when he began his radio career at KYXS in Mineral Wells. Congratulations to Joe for being inducted into the Texas Country Music DJ Hall of Fame.

-- Ann Bingham, Burleson

Cheers: To anyone who may have rescued my big black-and-white cat with no tail. He became lost escaping a dog. Please take him to the Haltom City Animal Hospital. If you see him in your area, call the hospital and I will be contacted to come get him.

-- Evelyn Allison, Fort Worth

Jeers: To the Texas Rangers telecast for using a scoreboard so small you need a magnifying glass to see it, much less the scores.

-- Pherne Abney, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Kennedale Mayor Bryan Lankhorst, City Manager Bob Hart, Fire Chief Mike McMurray, Felipe Gutierrez and the many others who worked to make the annual Arts in the Park at Kennedale Town Center a success April 8-10.

-- Vera Murray Coker, Kennedale

Cheers: To Ben Omar and Lifetime Hearing in Bedford. They sold me the best pair of hearing aids I own for the lowest cost. Service has been great and so has their interest-free financing plan.

-- R.H. Rastall, Crowley

Cheers: To the creative staff at the new Bedford Public Library for hosting a "Breakfast with the Bunny" on April 9 with face painting, bunny ears, food and a photo with the bunny for the kids. The main library had crafts, a movie and story time. Tons of work went into the event, and it was a huge success.

-- Pat Jasper, Bedford

Cheers: To Anissa Camp for helping a cat that was hit by a careless driver. We need more caring humans like her. Jeers to the animal clinic that charged so much to put the poor cat down. Next time have a heart and don't be so greedy.

-- Helga Lehman, Arlington

Cheers: To the doctors, nurses and staff of Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Duncanville High School friends and family, and prayers for my great-nephew, Tristan Russell, after a March 19 head injury that almost took his life. He is on the mend. Miracles do happen.

-- Shirley Eason, Arlington

Cheers: To Lisa Robinson, a nutritionist who knows the art and science of reflexology, and who helped me tremendously with my insomnia. Reflexology really works! Many thanks, Lisa, you're the best.

-- Aline Jalbert, Fort Worth

Jeers: To the Zoo Run for not extending age categories past age 75. Runners over age 80 do enter and are competitive. All other runners compete with others no more than five years younger. At least one lady over 80 finished in about 50 minutes.

-- Carol Feyen, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the five nurses, therapists and receptionist in the cardiac rehabilitation unit at Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth. When I started there as a patient in 1991, my breathing capacity was about 36 percent. Now I am breathing about 58 percent -- quite an improvement!

-- Fred W. Smith, Fort Worth

Jeers: To people who plant bamboo along their property lines. This is a very invasive plant and roots will travel 6 to 8 feet into a neighbor's property. One heart episode and several hundred dollars later, we are still fighting it.

-- Sharon Morrick, North Richland Hills

Cheers: To Judy Huskey at the west side branch of Liberty Bank. She goes way beyond the call of duty to provide extraordinary service to her customers. I am so grateful.

-- Gerry Herman, Fort Worth

Cheers: To students and sponsors for planting and continuously beautifying North Richland Middle School. The school has never looked better!

-- Candace Peel, North Richland Hills

Cheers: To Craig and his associate from Jim's Lock and Key Co. They saw my car get hit and stopped to help. They were truly good Samaritans.

-- Terri J. Lindsey, Fort Worth

Jeers: To anyone who tries to divert even one penny of the $830 million from the federal government away from education. If you criticized the Doggett amendment, you must prove it wrong.

-- Walt Shacklett, Bedford

Cheers: To the wonderful, caring nurses who cared for me on the seventh floor at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. They are angels. God bless them all.

-- Nelson Duane Gabbert, Fort Worth

-- LaShanda J. Smith, Keller

Jeers: To the departments responsible for maintaining the pickup of trash and debris along our roadways. What an embarrassment it is to see the amount of trash, particularly on Interstate 20 between Interstate 35W and Mansfield Highway. What a disgrace to have to look at this every day!

-- Greg Green, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Ballet Folklórico Azteca de Fort Worth for providing family-friendly entertainment and cultural awareness throughout Fort Worth and surrounding communities. Special recognition to Artistic Director Carol Alvarado for leading by example and instilling dedication, pride and commitment into such a young group of talented dancers.

-- Lorie Palacios, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the $5 carwash on Matlock Road for being so honest and customer-minded. I lost my Dallas Cowboys rear tire cover in the carwash months ago, and they were kind enough to hold it for me until I returned. They have my business for life.

-- Deby Oberfoell, Arlington

Cheers: To the two motorcyclists who stopped to help the crossing guard who had fallen at Bursey and Whitley roads. They helped the guard and escorted the children safely across the busy intersection. My husband was unable until now to thank you for caring and making this world a better place.

-- Larry and Trudy Gardner, Watauga

Cheers: To my guardian angel, Jim from C & D Automotive Service in Keller. Thank you for always giving the very best service for more than 20 years. You are not only an expert mechanic, but you get the job done in record time.

-- Debbi Baron, Keller

Jeers: To Texas Rangers management for bringing mediocrity to the TV broadcast booth by failing to rehire their entertaining and longtime play-by-play man. Hopefully his monotonous, error-prone replacement will improve, but for now, I will keep turning down the TV sound and listening to the radio.

-- Michael Galloway, Austin

Cheers: To the unidentified people who picked up my drink tab April 15 at the Sonic Drive-In on Bowen Road in Arlington. You sure made an old lady feel nice at the end of a difficult day!

-- Gwen Burk, Pantego

Cheers: To the Outback Steakhouse on Bryant Irvin Road for being a wonderful place to eat with affordable prices during these rough economic times. I was treated like someone special by an A-1 server named John, who is always neat, clean, friendly and smiling and makes us feel like we can't wait to come again. He's an asset.

-- Jennie House, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Del Frisco's for consistently serving outstanding food. Jeers to a local steakhouse that doesn't. After we spent a large sum for dinner and told management how bad it was, the management chose to do nothing. We will drive the extra mile to go downtown from now on.

-- Christine Sawyer, Ladies Bible Class, Southside Church of Christ, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the staff and veterinarian Rita Ruple at Parkside Animal Hospital in Keller when my precious 18-year-old cat, Fella, had to be put to rest. She sedated him enough to ease his pain to let me caress him and say my goodbye. She never left my side.

-- Dee Mack, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the young man who helped change my flat tire at the Railhead Smokehouse. I had recent knee surgery, and he was an angel in a time of need. I didn't get his name or even offer to pay him. He just waved, and he and his wife got in their car and drove off.

-- Nancy Mehlenbacher,

Fort Worth

Jeers: To the rude high school baseball fan who yells so loudly at games that he is a nuisance to people in the stands as well as both teams. Is he there to support these young players or to call attention to himself? His yelling is so loud that it is impossible to enjoy the game. Please stop.

Cheers: To the lady in the grocery store who said she wanted to bless me when she gave me $50. I was so surprised I didn't get her name. It's nice to know there are angels around, even in the grocery store. It's people like her who make the world a better place.

-- Juanelle Thompson Morris,

Fort Worth

Cheers: To the gentleman who on April 3 bought all the members of the W.P.S. group to breakfast at Westside Cafe on Camp Bowie Boulevard. Your act of kindness was enjoyed by all.

-- Martha E. Ewing, Fort Worth

Cheers: To the Girl Scout troops at the "Cost of Freedom" traveling Vietnam wall in Benbrook. They spent a lot of their time giving all the veterans a thank-you card and cookies for our service. They wouldn't take a donation.
