My 8-month-old loves it when I read to him Dr Seuss's ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book. The colorful illiteration keeps him spellbounded. He watches my mouth move to the rhyming rhythm that kids of all ages have come to love. If he were old enough, I would definitely dress him in some Seussical pjs and whisk him to the Green Eggs and Ham breakfast at the Stonebriar mall.

Here are the details to my Top 5 things-to-do with the family this weekend: 
 
1. Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast (Not free, but fun)
Celebrate the beloved Dr. Seuss’s birthday! Children can wear Seussical pajamas or dress as a Seuss character. Every child will receive a red-and-white striped top hat and be served green eggs and ham. Activities include story time, one free carousel ride during event and costume contests for best pajamas and best Seuss character.
Good to know: Seating is limited to 150, so early registration is recommended. Adults can register kids by calling Stonebriar Centre Guest Services at (972) 668-6153. Tickets for non-registered children may or may not be available the day of the event.

2. Mommy & Me Stroller Preview at Home and Garden Show
Moms and the kids are invited to spend a few hours as special guests of the 32nd Annual Spring Dallas Home & Garden Show. Get tips from Master Faux Finisher Michael Graves, Home Depot experts, Barbara Gilbert of Barbara Gilbert Interiors, and Ruth Garrett of groceriesdirtcheap.com. Kids can enjoy Radio Disney's “Mommy and Stroller Rockin’ Road Show” and you can relax in the Mommy lounge. Each mom will get a swag bag
Good to know: Moms will get a swag bag and a 2-for-1 ticket to return with a family member during the remainder of the show and can win door prizes.

3. Kids Fishing Day at Mike Lewis Park
The lagoon will be stocked with rainbow trout furnished by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Prizes will be awarded in three age categories for largest fish, smallest fish and most fish caught.  A limited number of rods and reels will be available on a first-come basis, with a driver’s license or credit card deposit. You can also bring your own rod, reel and bait.
Good to know: No pre-registration is required, but there will be a sign-in table on site to keep track of participation and to notify prize winners.
Recommended ages: 16 and younger; 17 and older are welcome to fish at 4 p.m. after the event
When: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 5

4. Get artistic!
Nasher Sculpture Center: The popular Target First Saturdays event features art projects, tours, scavenger hunt, yoga, sculpture demo, storytime and take-home art activities.
Good to know: Family tours are at 10:15 a.m, 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.; NasherKids Meal available for puchase at Nasher Cafe from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

5. Snake Encounters
