One of the Christmas gifts I gave my kids this year was a boxed CD set of recordings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speeches. I wanted them, especially my baby, to be able to hear King's inspiring message from the man himself. On Monday, we celebrate the life a great humanitarian. Here are some Dallas/Fort Worth area events to honor King's legacy:

All Western Stock Show Parade: You may think this is an odd first pick to honor Dr. King's life, but what better way to celebrate his mission then to learn about different cultures including the Cowboy Culture. Cowboys and cowgirls will whoop it up in downtown Cowtown, which is expected to draw upwards of 100,000 spectators.
Good to know: This parade is the kick-off for the Fort Worth Stock Show, which will host the Fort Worth Cowboys of Color Invitational Rodeo at 2 p.m. on MLK Day, Monday, Jan. 17 at Will Rogers Coliseum. Tickets are $16 and include admission to the Stock Show. For more information on the rodeo, go to
