The Joy of a Hamburger

Our family had a wonderful Christmas. Every step of the way, I counted my blessings. Also, every step of the way, I ate fantastic food.

Christmas Eve hors de oeuvres? Fresh shrimp cocktail with spicy sauce. Dinner? King Ranch Chicken and Tamales. Christmas Breakfast? Homemade caramel rolls. Dinner? Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans wrapped in bacon, chipotle cranberries and chocolate cherry cake.

In a word, yum.

And, my sweet six-year-old boy, who easily eats his weight in food every day, happily went along on this culinary ride. Certainly, these gourmet delights were WAY above the meals he has during a normal week at our house. He chomped and smiled, in between Tinker Toy invention building and Wii Madden 2011, without complaint.

We had to laugh, then, on Sunday, the day after all of this feasting, when we found ourselves at Wendy's, for a quick bite, because I was DONE cooking for awhile. As he chewed on that first bite of hamburger, he smiled and sighed and said:

"Now, this is my kind of dinner!"

Lovely. His future wife need not be a master in the kitchen.
