Ready for Rudolph!

By KimB on 11/27/10 19:12

Casa Manana's production of the beloved Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer has officially kicked off my family's holiday season!

For those of us who faithfully watch the TV-version of the story, this production is wonderfully familiar. The dialogue, songs and characters are all in place. Rudolph falls for Clarice. Yukon Cornelius mines for silver and gold. Hermey still wants to be a dentist. It's a lovely, predictable hour and a half.

Taking our three and six-year-old along for the ride was a wise choice. Both were entertained, without being too frightened by the "bad guy," Bumble. Although neither child was really fooled by the noticable black wires that enabled Rudolph to "fly," both loved the effect and thought it would be fun to try, themselves.

For added Christmas cheer, this version of Rudolph throws in some rousing renditions of "Run, Rudolph, Run" and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." Neither song really aids the story, but no one seemed to mind the extra reason to dance and sing along.

If your family includes any little ones, or if you are just looking for a dose of Christmas cheer, this production is a great choice. Our Friday night show was sold out, so call ahead!
