Friday Freebies: Pick a pumpkin patch

Find a safe way to trick-or-treat, pick out a pumpkin or explore the world this weekend in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Pumpkin Village: Free activities for the kids include hay rides, petting zoo, hay pyramid, bounce house and bounce slide.
Good to know: Pumpkins prices range from $.50 to $20.00 per pumpkin. Food and drinks available for purchase.

When:  9 a.m. to dusk, daily. Through October 31.

Pumpkins on the Prairie: Enjoy the cooler temperatures of Fall and head to this fun pumpkin patch. Your children can play in the bounce house,  run through the hay maze and play games in a Kid's Patch.
Good to know: Pick out and purchase a pumpkin. All proceeds will benefit Grace Avenue Missions, Ministries and Assistance
Recommended ages: All
When: 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday-Friday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; Noon to 8 p.m., Sunday. NOTE: The pumpkin patch will open at 9 a.m. Monday, October 11 due to school holiday. Through October 30.

Rockwall Pumpkin Patch: About 125,000 pounds of pumpkins will be available for the pickin' and this patch stocks the traditional orange pumpkins as well as novelty pumpkins and gourds. Daily activities for the kids include a special photo area, Story Time Theatre near Oscar the Scarecrow, a hay maze and pumpkin carving. On Saturdays, there's Pumpkin Patch Playtime, which includes storytime, craft projects, face painting and special entertainment.
Good to know: Pumpkins are delivered from New Mexico and California where ideal conditions produce large colorful pumpkins.

Maya Lords of the Jungle: The Kimbell Art Museum presents this film that explores recent archaeological discoveries and exciting breakthroughs in deciphering Maya hieroglyphs. Watch leading experts as they piece together a more nuanced understanding of the powerful rulers, majestic cities and cultural achievements of the Maya civilization.
Good to know: The film is about 60 minutes.

Worldfest: This festival, co-presented by the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth, features a Moroccan village, Flamenco dancing, a Día de los Muertos exhibit, a Japanese tea ceremony and much more.

Fire Safety Town
Trick or Treat at Fire Safety Town: Here's a safe and fun way to trick-or-treat with your little ones. Kids can bring their goody bags and dress up to trick or treat through Frisco's miniature town.
Good to know: Parent or guardian must accompany children to the event and provide supervision at all times.
Recommended ages: 11 and younger
When: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, October 22
Where: Frisco Fire Safety Town, next door to Frisco Central Fire Station, 8601 Gary Burns Drive, Frisco, TX. Parking and free shuttle will be available at Frisco Athletic Center parking lot, located at 5828 Nancy Jane Ln., east of the Preston Road – Wade Boulevard intersection. The shuttle will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Locks of Love: In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, give a hair donation of 10 inches or more at Grand Spa and you will receive a free shampoo and style, free pink nail polish change and free eyebrow shaping. You will also be entered into a drawing to win a basket of Kerastase products valued at $500.
Good to know: Make your appointment by calling 972-392-9393. Locks of Love is a non profit organization that provides hair pieces and wigs to children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

When: Donate your hair through Sunday, October 24. Spa hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday-Friday; 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday.
