Burleson ISD has canceled classes at Bransom Elementary School for a second day Tuesday because of a water line break at the school Sunday morning.

Classes will resume on Wednesday when district officials plan to move the displaced students to a vacant wing of the new Centennial High School campus nearby.

District staff members are scheduled to retrieve personal items and school supplies from lockers and desks Tuesday afternoon, the district's website said.

Burleson police and fire departments were called to the school Sunday afternoon after children in the neighborhood noticed water coming out of the building, district spokesman Phillip Beckman said.

They were met with a flood of water from the front of the building, Beckman said. The source was a water line break below the foundation of the building at 820 S. Hurst Road, he said.

The cleanup was begun by an estimated 100 volunteers ranging from members of the district's board of trustees and district principals, to parents of students, according to a release to parents on the school district's website.

The volunteers moved the muddy water, which stood 2 inches deep, from the building before a restoration and cleanup company arrived, according to the release.

Estimates of the cost of the damage are not available, but Beckman said that most of the building was affected.
