The body of Fort Worth attorney Tom Zachry, missing since his boat capsized Friday on Aquilla Lake in Hill County, was recovered Tuesday morning after game wardens using sonar equipments found him, a county official said.

Tom Hemrick, Hill County emergency management coordinator, said Zachry's body was pulled from the lake about 9:45 a.m. after four game wardens from the state wildlife department used side-scanning sonar to locate the body very near the spot where the boat capsized.

Hemrick said the cold water, high winds and numerous tree stumps beneath the water made it difficult to locate the body of Zachry, 66, who was fishing with a friend when the boat capsized after possibly hitting a tree stump.

The friend, Jerald Mack, 75, clung to the boat for four hours before being rescued by a passing boater, but Zachry tried to swim to safety and went down about 75 feet from shore, Hemrick said.

"Our number one goal was just to recover this body," Hemrick said. "I'm thankful we were able to do for the family."

Hemrick said Zachry's body has been turned over to a Hillsboro funeral home.

The Texas Department of Public Safety was preparing to send in a cold-water dive team Tuesday when the game wardens recovered the body, Hemrick said.

Teams had recovered Zachry's bass boat about 12:30 p.m. Monday, but they had not been able to locate Zachry, who went missing in water that was 20 to 25 feet deep, authorities have said.

Zachry was on a path to become Tarrant County's newest state district judge. He beat his opponent in this month's Republican primary and was running unopposed in November for the 432nd District Court.
