A Justin man has been recognized for his quick action in January in helping to stop the car of a woman who was having a seizure while driving on Interstate 35E, the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation announced Wednesday.

Bryan Jacobs is among 20 finalists for the Citizen Service Above Self Honors. The awards recognize Americans "who become extraordinary through their indomitable courage and selflessness," according to a foundation press release.

Jacobs was among 10 finalists cited for performing a single act of extraordinary heroism.

On Jan. 11, Jacobs saw the woman's car strike the center median of the highway and continue to swerve, according to the foundation.

He pulled next to the woman's car and saw that she was slumped over the wheel, a foundation release said.

Jacobs then pulled his car in front of hers and he was able to use his bumper to slow her car to a stop. He then rendered aid to the woman, the foundation said.

"Bryan Jacobs' selflessness and bravery in saving the woman's life and preventing more accidents from occurring continues to be an inspiration," the foundation said in citing his efforts.

Ten other finalists were chosen across the nation for "their willingness to sacrifice for others through a prolonged series of selfless acts," according to the foundation.

The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation is a nonprofit organization that attempts to perpetuate the Medal of Honor’s legacy of courage, sacrifice and patriotism.
