Airlines reported an on-time performance rate of 78.7 percent in January but the carrier in last place was Fort Worth-based American Eagle.
The regional carrier posted an on-time rate of 72.8 percent for January, the worst of the 18 airlines surveyed by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.The BTS said the industry's on-time rate was better than the 77.0 percent rate in January 2009 and 72.09 percent in December 2009.American Airlines posted an on-time rate of 79.8 percent while Southwest Airlines had an on-time rate of 80.1 percent. As usual, Hawaiian Airlines had the best on-time rate at 86.7 percent.U.S. carriers also had a lower mishandled baggage rate of 4.62 reports per 1,000 passengers, down from January 2009's 5.31 rate.For the month, 39.31 percent of late flights were delayed by weather, which was down from the 43.61 percent in January of 2009.Here's a look at the airlines' on-time rates:1.
