Richardson student dies after falling from schoolbus
RICHARDSON — A 15-year-old student from J.J. Pearce High School died Wednesday after falling from a moving schoolbus.
Just prior to this incident, two other students were fighting, a police official said.
The bus driver stopped the bus in the 1000 block of West Spring Valley Road about 4:35 p.m. and demanded that those two students leave the bus, said Jonathan Wakefield, Richardson police investigator.
The bus driver began to drive away after those two students got off the bus and then the girl demanded to get off the bus, Wakefield said.
The girl forced the bus doors open, fell to the pavement and was run over by the rear wheels, Wakefield said.
Emergency medical personnel arrived about 4:45 p.m. and prepared to take the girl to a local hospital, but she died before she could be transported, Wakefield said.
No charges are expected to be filed, Wakefield said.
The Pearce High School principal informed parents of the incident on Wednesday, and a district crisis counseling team is scheduled to be at the school Thursday and Friday to assist students and staff, a school official said.
