A 62-year-old man was killed late Sunday in a single-vehicle wreck south of Cleburne, according to reports.

Eldon Cooper, of Cleburne, was identified by the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.

He was pronounced dead about 11 p.m. at the scene of the wreck on Farm Road 2135, about two miles southeast of the city limits, according to information on the medical examiner's Web site.

Rain-slick pavement and excessive speed contributed to the wreck, said Trooper Dub Gillum, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety's highway patrol.

Troopers did not know if Cooper was traveling faster than the 55-mile-per-hour speed limit, but they did believe he was traveling too fast for the slippery conditions, Gillum said.

Cooper was traveling south in 2007 Chevrolet pickup when he crossed into a northbound lane and attempted to regain control, Gillum said.

The truck slid sideways back across the southbound lane and then went of the road where it struck a tree, Gillum said.
