Covenant Squad Wins National Championship

The Colleyville Covenant Christian Academy competitive cheerleading squad was recently named the National Champion at the American Cheerleaders Association National Championships.

The competition was held on Jan. 15 & 16 at the Tarrant County Convention Center in Fort Worth.

According to a news release, “they were also named North Texas Champions at the Division 1A National Cheerleaders Association North Texas competition held December 14, 2009 at the Dallas Convention Center.”

The Covenant cheerleaders include Amy Fisher, Paige Mills, Maddie Weston (captain), Kagan Parker, Mary Kathryn Pengelly, Catherine Haltom, Amanda Hyde, Mackenzie Friedman, Danielle Black, Ashley Lay, Blayne Davis, Burkley Vaughan, and Kathryn Rhodes.

The squad is coached by Stacey McCrary.

Covenant Has Good Showing at Regional Swim Meet

The Colleyville Covenant Christian swim team had a strong effort at the regional swim meet last weekend, with a number of good individual performances, including the following:

*Katelyn Sowinski: first in 100 Fly; first in 500 Free

*Katie Lucas: second in 50 Free; second in 100 Free

*Avery Dale: 11th in 50 Free

*Bonnie McDaniel: seventh in 50 Free; fifth in 100 Breaststroke

*Shelby Mowery: 18th in 50 Free

*Sam Goff: first in 100 Backstroke; third in 100 Breaststroke

*Grant Oviatt: third in 50 Free; second in 100 Breaststroke

This is the first season for Colleyville Covenant Christian to have a swim team compete at the varsity level.

Covenant Beats CCA, Moves to 6-2 in District

The Colleyville Covenant Christian boys basketball team defeated Carrollton Christian Academy 50-33 on Friday night for its fourth straight district win.

Carter Henderson led the Cougars in scoring with 19 points in the game, while Jackson Taylor finished up with 10 points.

Andrew Samples, Josh Wilson, Robert Hasler and Jordan Black all combined for 21 points in the game.

Covenant will play Irving the Highlands at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Covenant Christian Academy.
