The Fossil Ridge boys soccer team started off the district season with two ties last week, and coach Jamie Moore said he believes things are headed in the right direction.

Ridge tied Trinity 2-2 on Friday, and Moore said his team did a good job of persevering.

"It was a pretty physical game, and our guys responded well," he said. "We were down 1-0 at half time, but we came out in the second half and got two really good goals. We started to have some positive things happen for us."

Fossil Ridge tied Colleyville Heritage 1-1 Jan. 26, and will host Grapevine at 7 p.m. Friday.

Moore said he thinks that will be a tough game for the Panthers.

"I expect Grapevine to be a pretty skilled team," he said. "They've got some good players coming back from last year."

Over at Keller, the Indians tied Central 0-0 on Friday night, and coach Jason Bates said he was pleased with the draw, but that it was not quite what he had hoped for.

"I was a little disappointed," he said. "I'm happy, because that is a tough place to go and play, and a tough place to win. I thought we played well enough to win the game, but I'm sure Dave [Maher] will tell you the same thing."

Keller defeated Trinity Jan. 26 in a game where freshman Trevor Haberkorn scored twice and senior Karson Lofink added a goal of his own.

Keller plays at Northwest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and Bates said he expects a difficult match.

"They always give us a hard time," Bates said. "Their new soccer coach, Chad Rakestraw, grew up playing in Grapevine, so it's going to be a tough game, but then again, every game is a tough game. We have to be consistent and give ourselves a chance."

Central coach Dave Maher said he was pleased with his team's effort against Keller on Friday, but that his team could have played a little bit better.

"I think we were off a few steps against them, but overall, it was a pretty good effort," he said.

Central will play Trinity at 7:15 p.m. on Friday at home.
