Gollum, the Italian Greyhound that led an official to the place where his owner was submerged in an icy pond, was found today by builders.

Fort Worth Fire Department divers pulled Gollum's owner, 34-year-old Andrea Benua, from the frigid water on Monday and she was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Gollum was spotted by a man near Basswood Boulevard and Interstate 35W and he followed the dog to a gated community, where he ran under a fence and out of sight, said Kathy Carlile, Andrea Benua's sister-in-law. The dog was then spotted by builders working in the area near his owner's residence in the Santa Fe Enclave community in north Fort Worth, Carlile said.

The builders got Gollum to Benua's house and left the dog, Carlile said. The builders then left the Benuas a telephone message, Carlile said.

"This is Mike the builder and the dog is at your house," the message said, according to Carlile.
