This was not a good year for home foreclosures in the four-county North Texas region.

Numbers released today for the December auction pushed this year's total to 61,676 postings, the most ever, said Addison-based Foreclosure Listing Service. It's a 23 percent jump from the number of postings in 2008, said George Roddy Sr., president of Foreclosure Listing Service.

"During the fourth quarter alone, 17,000 homes were posted for foreclosure in the Metroplex," he said.

Of the total postings, 20,170 were filed in Tarrant County, figures show. The 2009 total is a 27 percent increase over 2008.

"This is the highest I have seen since we began tracking foreclosure posting activity in this county," Roddy said.

In Dallas County, 26,550 homes were posted for foreclosure, an increase of 17 percent from 2008. Collin County figures reached 8,193, up 32 percent from a year ago, and, Denton County filings jumped 24 percent from last year to 6,763 filings this year.

Not all of the postings are new filings. The figures include "re-postings," or those that were not completed at the scheduled auction and were re-filed for the next auction.
