Kroger, the Cincinnati-based grocery chain, has selected Alliance Town Center to locate its first Marketplace store in Tarrant County and only the fourth in Texas, Alliance developer Hillwood announced today.
The store is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2010 at the southwest corner of Heritage Trace Parkway and Riverside Drive.Kroger pointed to the tremendous growth at Heritage, a residential component of Hillwood’s Alliance development in the fast-growing north Fort Worth sector, as well as employment growth for their selection.“This new concept has worked well in other markets, particularly in suburban locations as a one-stop shopping solution,” Gary HuddlestonÖ, Kroger’s consumer affairs director for the region, said in a statement.Kroger has two Marketplace stores in Houston and will open one in Frisco in January. The 123,000-square-foot store has features unique to a Kroger Signature store, but with an expanded variety of grocery and deli products, a large floral section, fuel center, gourmet and chef-prepared foods, and a wine shop. The store will also sell linens, upscale kitchenware, and the latest toys.Hillwood said it has wanted a grocery anchor at Alliance since the shopping center began in 2006 with the opening of JCPenney.“Kroger Marketplace is the perfect fit,” said Mark Miller, Hillwood’s vice president of retail development. The store, he said, will offer “a more convenient and cost-effective place” to buy groceries and other home items. The 300-acre Alliance Town Center is a joint development of Hillwood and the Trademark real estate development firm in Fort Worth. It is on the east side of Interstate 35W between North Tarrant Parkway and Heritage Trace Parkway.Other features of the Kroger Marketplace include a Nature’s Market section that will offer all-natural and organic products, a drive-through pharmacy, a Fred Meyer Jeweler store and a large home-furnishing section with Ashley brand furniture.More than 20 retailers occupy about 600,000 square feet at Alliance Town Center, including Sam Moon, Bank of Texas, Belk, Best Buy, Cheddar’s, Dress Barn, Eye Masters, Hobby Lobby, Jason’s Deli, Justice, Kincaid’s, Mattress Firm, McDonald’s, PetSmart, Rack Room, Rue 21, Smoothie King, Sports Clips, Ulta, Wells Fargo, and Which Wich. Rooms To Go and BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse are under construction, and Freebirds World Burrito and Kirkland’s will open soon. At full build-out, Alliance Town Center will have 2 million square feet of retail, office, residential, and entertainment space, along with an HCA medical campus.
