FRISCO — Who needs Kenny Cooper when you’ve got Jeff Cunningham?

FC Dallas played without Cooper, its leading scorer, Saturday night against the New York Red Bulls and Cunningham became the team’s focal point on offense. He responded with goals in the 15th and 17th minutes, and FC Dallas (4-7-5, 17 points) made those stand up for a 2-1 Major League Soccer victory at Pizza Hut Park.

FC Dallas is 3-1-4 since May 9 and will play the next couple of games without Cooper, who is with the U.S. national team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Cunningham, who had only one goal this season but is fourth on the MLS career goals list with 107, scored his first goal Saturday unassisted after collecting an errant New York pass inside the penalty area, and midfielder Dave van den Bergh assisted on the second goal against his former team.

Juan Pablo Angel scored in the 43rd minute for the Red Bulls (2-13-4, 10 points), who are now 0-10-1 in MLS road games this season and have not won in their last 10 league games.
