An elderly woman died with her dog early Monday in a mobile home fire on the north side of Grand Prairie, an official said.
The woman's name, however, was not released Monday morning because her family had not yet been notified, said a staff member at the Dallas County medical examiner's office.Investigators were still trying to learn on Monday what caused the fire, which was reported at 1:23 a.m. in the 300 block of Knob Oak Court, said Assistant Chief C.J. Grippin of the Grand Prairie Fire Department.The neighborhood is in a mobile home park on the far north side of the city."When our guys arrived on scene, the front half was fully involved," Grippin said. "She was found with her dog lying in the bathroom midway through the trailer."The dog did perish with her."Grippin said he could not tell what type of dog it was.The blaze, he added, nearly spread to another home."The trailer kind of shifted on its foundation and it started to roll toward a mobile home next door, but it was stopped by a tree," Grippin said.Neighbors told officials that the woman was elderly and she had multiple health and mobility problems, Grippin said, but he added that he did not know the exact issues.View Larger Map
