A woman and child suffered smoke inhalation Thursday morning when a home in northeast Mansfield was engulfed in flames, fire officials said.

The woman and child, who were inside the home during the fire, were taken to Mansfield Methodist Hospital where they were being treated. Their conditions were not available Thursday morning

Neighbors called 911 at around 2 a.m. after seeing a large glow near area of Matlock Road and Debbie Lane, said Mansfield Assistant Fire Chief Eric Peterson.

The woman in the house was awakened by the smoke detectors, fire officials said.

The two-story home in the 1700 block of Fairfax Drive was completely destroyed. It was valued on the Tarrant County Appraisal District at $223,000.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation Thursday morning, Peterson said.
