D/FW AIRPORT -- Apparently, opening an airport pet resort isnt as easy as laying down a piece of newspaper on the floor and saying, "Sit!"
First off, theres the rules.Up until now, Dallas/Fort Worth Airports code of rules and regulations bans animals at the airport unless they are service animals, used for law enforcement or are properly confined for shipment. On Thursday, airport staff will ask the D/FW Airport Board to add to the list of exceptions animals in the care of, or in transit to or from, an Airport-operated or tenant-operated pet care facility.The change will also require sign-offs from Fort Worth and Dallas city councils, airport legal counsel Paul Tomme said.The airport is looking at a site on the Grapevine side of the airport to build the upscale pet resort, including boarding and grooming, daycare services, recreational areas, pet wading pool and a pet retail shop.It would complement nearby development, which includes extending Mustang Drive to the east. (The pet resort would be off of Main Street, across from the Stacy furniture store.)
