Arlington driver dies after collision with pickup

ARLINGTON -- A 62-year-old man died Friday from injuries suffered when his car collided with a pickup truck at an intersection in central Arlington.

The unidentified Arlington man was taken to Arlington Memorial Hospital by ground ambulance where he was pronounced dead at 7:10 p.m., police said.

The accident occurred at Slaughter and North Mesquite streets about 6:40 p.m., according to authorities. A Ford pickup driven by a 19-year-old Grand Prairie man was traveling northbound on North Mesquite Street and collided with the man's Saturn traveling westbound on Slaughter Street.

The impact knocked the Saturn through a wooden fence surrounding a corner residence.

Emergency medical personnel said they detected a faint pulse before transporting the injured man to the hospital. The cause of the accident was still under investigation at 7:45 p.m., police said.
