GRAND PRAIRIE - A 13-year-old girl drowned after falling off her water board late Friday at Joe Pool Lake.

Shannon Allcock, of Cedar Hill, was found about 8:35 p.m. in about 6 feet of water approximately 75 yards from the shoreline, said Sgt. Chris Chopin, Grand Prairie Police spokesman.

She and family and friends were celebrating the holiday at the 5700 block of Lakeridge Parkway at Lynn Creek Park, police said. She was separated from her boogie board while swimming out into the lake to meet some friends, said her father, Gavin Allcock. After Shannon disappeared, one of her friends swam to shore to tell adults, Gavin Allcock said.

The father said he believes his daughter lost her board after being hit by the wake of a motorized sea craft.

Police were called and found the teen after searching about 30 minutes.

Shannon Allcock was taken to Medical Center of Arlington where she was pronounced dead about 9:30 p.m., according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's Web site.

Shannon Allcock, originally from England, moved to North Texas two years ago and was advancing to the eighth grade in the fall at Coleman Middle School, Gavin Allcock said.

"My daughter was a pretty good swimmer," he said.

Shannon Allcock sang soprano with the Coleman Middle School choir and had aspirations of becoming a singer, he father said. She and her younger sister, Jasmine Allcock, were inseparable, the father said.

"There were so many children out there," he said. "There was no way that you could keep an eye on everyone."
