More than 300 participants trying almost 30 outdoor activities are expected Saturday at Dallas’ Bachman Lake Recreation Center for the 18th annual Turning Point Celebration of Choices Extravaganza for physically challenged people.

The activities will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., including rock climbing, horseback riding, SCUBA diving, waterskiing, fencing, jet skiing, archery, fishing, golf and remote car racing.

Physically challenged children and adults requiring an orthopedic device are invited to spend the day participating in adapted sports and seeing the latest in available state-of-the-art equipment.

“With a little encouragement, people can experience activities that enrich their lives, boost their confidence and get them off the couch to enjoy their lives,” said Michael “Shorty” Powers of Turning Point.

Before Saturday’s main event, Three-on-Three men’s basketball and billiards tournaments will be held Friday around the Dallas area. Pre-registration for these tournaments is required.

Paralympics gold medalists Dave Kiley, Randy Snow and Candace Cable will be present to share their expertise at Saturday’s main event.

Dallas Parks and Recreation and Bass Pro Shops of Garland are co-sponsors. Mobility Medical is the official medical equipment vendor, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will provide a catfish tank for casting and fishing.

More information is available by calling Powers at 972-524-4231, e-mailing him or by going to turningpointnation.org.
