ARLINGTON -- Two Arlington teenagers were arrested today on felony charges of racing on a highway.

Brandon Lee Burchfield, 18, David Alvarado, 19, were in the Arlington Jail with bail set at $3,000

The charges go back to an accident on Feb. 14.

Police said vehicles driven by Burchfield and Alvarado were racing when they crashed into a cement truck about 2:40 a.m. in 6400 block of South Cooper.

Police said the two vehicles were believed to be traveling as fast as 95 mph in a zone marked for 45 mph.

Burchfield was uninjured, but police said Alvarado and passengers in both vehicles were injured.

Eight days later, on Feb. 22, Burchfield also was arrested on charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.

In that incident, police said Burchfield was westbound in the 600 block of Debbie Lane about 11:55 p.m. when his Dodge pickup crossed the center line and stuck head-on a Ford Taurus driven by Nogaelda Martinez Zavala, 38, of Alvarado, who died at the scene.

Two passengers in the Zavala vehicle, Angel Zavala, 3, and Anna Zavala, 14, were treated for injuries at Cook Childrens Medical Center in Fort Worth.
