Officials have released the name of the tow-truck driver who was killed late Sunday while trying to remove a car from the shoulder of south Interstate 35W on the south side of Burleson.
William David Stone, 26, was identified by the Johnson County medical examiner's office. The agency also reported that he lived in Fort Worth, but his mother, Laura Smith of Haltom City, said he lived in River Oaks.She said he had five children."He was my oldest child," she said, her voice filled with grief. "Now there are five children that have to go on without him."The accident happened at 10:18 p.m. Sunday on the southbound lanes of I-35W, said Sally Ellertson, spokeswoman for the city of Burleson. The area is north of I-35W's intersection with County Road 602. Stone was hooking onto a black Mitsubishi GT3000, which was "partially up on the flatbed wrecker" when a black Chevrolet Cavalier crashed into the Mitsubishi, Ellertson said."Then the Chevrolet struck the wrecker driver," Ellertson said. "The Chevrolet veered off on to the service road and came to a stop."Stone was pronounced dead at the scene, Ellertson said.
