Four men were taken by helicopters to a Fort Worth hospital after being hurt in a four-vehicle pile-up early Wednesday on the west side of Bridgeport in Wise County.

Just before noon, one of those was in the operating room and another in intensive care with life-threatening injuries at John Peter Smith hospital, said Officer Wesley Hughes with the Bridgeport Police Department.

The other two were in the hospital’s emergency room.

Another man was taken by ambulance to Wise Regional Hospital in Decatur with minor injuries.

The accident was reported at 6:44 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 380 and FM 1658, near the entrance of a Devon Energy gas processing plant. Police could not yet say how or why the accident occurred

“I can’t talk about it because it is still being investigated,” Hughes said. “We have conflicting stories and no witnesses remained on the scene.”

The four men taken to JPS were in one car and the other injured man was in another vehicle, Hughes said.
