Drivers report objects tossed from Fort Worth overpasses

FORT WORTH -- At least four drivers have reported people throwing bricks or other objects at passing vehicles from highway overpasses around Fort Worth in the past two weeks.

The first incident happened about 11:20 p.m. Oct. 4 at East Loop 820 and Meadowbrook Drive. A 31-year-old Hurst man told police that he had just left work when someone dropped a brick off the overpass. It struck his hood.

The damage totaled about $400, according to a police report.

The other three incidents happened Monday. The drivers of two 18-wheelers said they were northbound on Interstate 35W about 2:30 a.m. and saw two people standing on the Ripy Street overpass. The people “threw large rocks” that hit the truck’s windshields as they passed below.

Both windshields were cracked or broken but neither man was seriously injured, a police report stated.

Monday night, a 30-year-old Grand Prairie man told police he was westbound on Interstate 30 when he noticed several males standing on the overpass at Randoll Mill Road.

One of them dropped “a black ball” from the bridge damaging the vehicle’s front chrome grill and left headlight, a police report stated. The people on the overpass were gone when police arrived.
