ARLINGTON -- A wife shot and killed her estranged husband Sunday night at a the couple’s west Arlington home, a day before his attorney filed divorce papers.
Colette Reyes, 50, is accused of shooting her husband, Arthur Alexander Reyes, 45, shortly after 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the home in the 1800 block of Lakeside Drive. The couple had been married since April of 1988, records show. The two had been separated since Oct. 17.He was a senior lecturer and undergraduate adviser in the Computer Science Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Arlington, according to a university spokeswoman. Colette Reyes was being held in the Arlington jail on a charge of murder. Total bond had not been set late Monday.The couple’s marriage had become, “insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities,” according to divorced documents that were filed at 1 p.m. Monday.Reached by phone, Bedford attorney Don Davidson said he was unaware his client had been killed.“This is very sad,” Davidson said. “That’s tragic.”Davidson declined to discuss his client or information about the divorce. Police responded to a previous domestic dispute at the home in 2007 and as recently as October, Arlington police spokeswoman Tiara Ellis Richard said.Arthur Reyes was issued misdemeanor citations in both cases, Richard said. The couple’s 17-year-old daughter turns 18 on Dec. 17, according to court records. After arriving, police found the man dead inside the garage of the house, Richard said.Monday afternoon, family members, who neighbors say were in town for the weekend, gathered items from the home and placed them into a minivan. A man in the home, who would not identify himself, declined to comment.Earlier, neighbors in the Lakewood Canal section of west-central Arlington said they were awakened by police cars that were parked in front of the Reyes' home.
