FORT WORTH — A 27-year-old woman was badly injured Thursday afternoon when her car was rear-ended in an intersection of Altamesa Boulevard and the Interstate 35W service road, police said.

The woman was westbound on Altamesa when her Toyota was hit from behind by a Pontiac sedan whose driver may have had a seizure, according to police Sgt. Rodney Bangs, supervisor of the traffic investigation unit. The impact pushed the Toyota under the freeway overpass, into oncoming traffic and up a bridge embankment.

The car finally stopped under the bridge in a turn lane, Bangs said. The driver of the Pontiac voluntarily submitted to a blood test, and was taken to a hospital as a precaution, Bangs said.

It was too early in the investigation to say whether criminal charges are warranted, Bangs said.
