Benefiting arts education and outreach, the 2014 Casa Mañana Gala took place May 30 at Casa Mañana Theatre. The evening included cocktails, dinner, auctions, a performance of Always ... Patsy Cline and an after-party. Among the items up for auction were a wine dinner for eight, a football autographed by former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman and a his-and-hers cowboy package with boots, hats and a saddle.
The Boys & Girls Club of Arlington hosted its 24th annual Par for the Kids golf tournament June 23 at Walnut Creek Country Club in Mansfield. In addition to golf, the all-day event included a silent auction, dinner by Saltgrass Steak House, a helicopter ball drop and a long-drive contest.
The annual Evening of Hope gala, benefiting the programs and services of the AIDS Outreach Center, took place May 31 at River Crest Country Club. Guests sipped cosmopolitans one of which held a glittering diamond, donated by Kubes Jewelers while enjoying a fashion show, a lip sync show and a model-led conga line.
The 2014 Cliburn Gala took place May 2 at Ridglea Country Club. To fit the art deco “Classically Cliburn” theme, the country club was decorated with black and white decor and linens. Before dinner, a “flash mob” of six pianists, including two Cliburn competition gold medalists, played a rousing Stars and Stripes Forever. Guests dined on beef tenderloin, poached salmon and a cake in the shape of piano keyboards created specially for the event. After dancing to Big Blast and the Party Masters, patrons gathered on the patio for hand-rolled cigars and port.
The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation held its 17th annual Cigar Smoker Benefit on May 7 at the Fort Worth Club. The evening began with a cocktail reception featuring a selection of premium cigars, fine wines and spirits. The event also included dinner, a raffle and live and silent auctions. Among the auction items were a child-sized Porsche and a trip to a luxury resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
The Colleyville Woman’s Club hosted its 16th annual Caring with Commitment Celebration on May 22 at Colleyville Center. After a reception of juice and mimosas, the event continued with lunch and a special program recognizing exceptional individuals, organizations and businesses in the community.
The most exclusive event of the inaugural Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival, Tastes of the World, took place March 29 at Bass Hall. Guests were treated to a multicourse lunch prepared by chefs Stephan Pyles and Jon Bonnell and served on the concert hall stage. Emcee Quentin McGown explained the culinary roots of each dish, and master sommelier Guy Stout introduced pairings of rare wines. Guests also enjoyed entertainment provided by Fort Worth Opera, the Cliburn, and Texas Boys Choir, and a fashion show by designer Shawn D. Florence.
The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra hosted its annual Gala Concert and Dinner on April 3. The evening began at Bass Hall with a performance by legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma, then continued with cocktails, dinner and dancing at the Worthington Renaissance Hotel. A live auction included a set of former first lady Barbara Bushs pearls and a Conductor for a Day experience with FWSO Music Director Miguel Harth-Bedoya.
The Grand Opening Night Dinner for the 2014 Fort Worth Opera Festival took place April 19 on the mezzanine of Bass Hall. FWO patrons, opera stars and celebrities including fashion designer Austin Scarlett and Forte singers Josh Page and Fernando Varela dined on a surf and turf meal and sipped signature Purple Pearl cocktails. After dinner, guests walked the red carpet and posed with belly dancers and 8-foot elephant puppets in the lobby before a performance of Bizets The Pearl Fishers.
Benefiting the American Cancer Society, the 21st annual Cowtown Ball took place at La Paloma Ranch on April 26. The theme was Derricks & Diamonds, and guests were encouraged to dress in their finest cowboy attire. The evening included a dinner catered by Reata, cocktails, games, auctions and live entertainment by, among others, Sonny Burgess and Tracy Lawrence.
