The Fort Worth Opera launched its 2013 festival season at Bass Hall on April 20. The Moulin Rouge-themed celebration featured live entertainment, including can-can dancers, accordion music, a hula-hoop performer and a replica of the Eiffel Tower set up in the building. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History's ninth annual Mad Scientist Ball on April 13 was called Electric Field Trip. Guests were given "hall passes" to the event's entertainment, including science demonstrations, laser shows, live music by Time Machine, games and more. The Henry House Foundation held its new benefit, The Showdown at Hell's Half Acre, a no-limits Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament, at the Firestone & Robertson Distilling Co. on April 20. The all-day event included the tournament, live entertainment, raffles and auctions. Brunch and dinner were served. The winner of the tournament received a $10,000 entry into the main event of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Read more
Shoe designer Donald Pliner and his wife, Lisa Pliner, made an appearance at Stanley Eisenman Fine Shoes on March 29, to launch their new Signature Collection of luxury shoes for spring 2013. The 11th annual Empty Bowls event, presented by the Tarrant Area Food Bank, invited guests to a day of food, fun and fundraising March 28 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center. Guests enjoyed food and desserts from more than 30 local restaurants and caterers. They also had the opportunity to bid in two auctions, with prizes including bowls signed by celebrity chefs and entertainers. At the events end, each guest chose a hand-painted keepsake bowl. The Southlake Chapter of National Charity League Inc. took a walk on the wild side with Wild About Style, its annual fashion show and benefit, March 3 at the Westin DFW Airport. The event raised more than $65,000 for the chapter's six charities and had a record-breaking attendance of more than 600 guests. Fashions from the Gap, Whatchamacallit, Charming Charlie and more were featured, along with silent and live auctions. Read more
The Go Red for Women Luncheon, the American Heart Association's annual event that raises awareness and funds for battling heart disease in women, celebrated 10 years March 1 at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
